PENNY Evans’ entry Out of Sight, Out of Mind was the “obvious winner” of the 2015 Clarence Valley Indigenous Art Award.
The comment was made by Art Gallery of New South Wales assistant curator of Australian Art, Emily McDaniel, when she announced the winners at the exhibition’s official opening at the Grafton Regional Gallery last night.
It is not the first time Ms Evans, a Lismore-based visual artist of Kamilaroi/Gomeroi heritage, has received recognition for her entries into the competition. In 2009 she took out the CVIAA Encouragement Award.
